Boating to Santiago

Time in the market

Tuk tuks!

We took a boat across lake atilan today to visit a traditional Mayan village called Santiago Atilan. Tuk tuk rides, markets, and intentional moments of reflecting on and sharing our experiences made up our day. Tomorrow is a travel day back to our home stays for an early departure on Tuesday - you won't hear from us again until the airport.

The coffee plantation....after leaving our home stay families, we travelled 5 hours towards the coast and Mexican border. We were graciously hosted by tony on his plantation that was started by his great grandfather. It was a full two days that included tours of two of his farms, horse rides, jeep rides, pool time and a traditional Guatemalan birthday celebration with firecrackers and a piƱata!

Every girl received a bracelet, a goodie bag, and cake at the birthday party. Both sets of students smiled for the entire two hours. Very proud of our WRCA students.

A great WRCA way to welcome the girls to the party.

Throwing a birthday party at the all girls school in Santa Marie. Our students were fabulous as they led over 100 girls in various activities. Somebody looks like a teacher....

Visiting the open market in the Mayan village of Santa Marie de Jesus

A convent that dates back hundreds of years. Back then, once you entered, you could never exit through the doors again. Today....everyone came back out.
